5 Most Desirable Downtown Austin Condos

The most common request I receive from people relocating to Austin is asking about the most gay-friendly neighborhoods or condo buildings in Austin. I get it, nobody wants to live in a neighborhood or building with stuffy, close-minded people. Although most of Austin could be considered friendly, there’s definitely levels of friendliness. Here’s my picks for some of Austin’s most gay friendly condo buildings in Downtown Austin.

360 Condominiums |  3rd + Nueces St.

The 360 Condos is known as one of the more social buildings in Downtown Austin. They have a strong home owners association and designated social chair that plans plenty of events for the occupants of the building. With 44 floors and 430 units, you always find the pool, work out room, and bbq areas as the social centers for the building. Although this is one of the more social buildings, it’s not just young professionals living there. Retirees, empty nesters, and professionals mix and mingle while enjoying the amenities, restaurants, and easy access to the hike and bike trails nearby.

Shore Condominiums  |  Red River + Davis St.

The Shore Condos sit right off the main path in the Rainey St. District. Tucked between Downtown, the hike and bike trail, the river, and Rainey St. District, this building offers the perfect balance if you’re looking to be engaged in the community, but not in the heart of the social scene. The Shore Condo building is 23 floors, has 192 units, and offers a gorgeous pool area with a panoramic view of Downtown. There is a small workout room, but the emphasis in this building is to take it outside to the trails. Given the limited space for development in the Rainey Street District, this building will alway offer access to some of the best amenities in the Downtown core and beautiful views of the always changing Downtown Austin skyline.

W Hotel + Residences
   |  2nd + Lavaca St.

Every time I show the W Residences, I always leave wanting to buy a place here. The amenities and atmosphere provided by the W Hotel + Residences are unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else in Austin. The W Hotel and Residences is home to the Moody Theatre, where the Austin City Limits films its concerts, the hotel and residence pools, Away Spa, and W Hotel bar and restaurant. With 36 floors and 165 units, you have the opportunity to be completely connected to one of Austin’s social centers or rest in complete privacy in your condo above the hotel. Whatever you decide is up to you.

Austin City Lofts  |  5th + West Ave.

Austin City Lofts is located near the Market District on the West side of town. This location provides easy access to the Whole Foods Flagship store, Pure Gym, the hike and bike trail, and West 6th St. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to keep your, but an easy walk will take you to the Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. Austin City Lofts is known for their large balconies and 11′ ceilings. With 14 floors and 82 units, this building will see tremendous growth around it in the coming years.

Milago Condominiums  |  Holly + Rainey St.

Located on the banks of Lady Bird Lake and just South of the Mexican America Cultural Center, many of my clients have said living in this condo is the next best thing to a house. Unlike a lot of the other condos Downtown, you walk out the door and you have instant access to green space. Especially if you have a dog, no more having to take your pooch to the 1′ x 1′ spot of grass to use the bathroom. With 13 floors and 240 units, this is one of the large condo buildings in town. Although it does have a slight hotel feel to it, a location like this will be hard to duplicate. Whether you prefer to workout indoors or outdoors, the amenities around this condo building will make any active person happy. Austin’s new boat house and the Waller Creek Riverwalk  is just a short walk from this condo as well.
