The Austin Chapter of StartOut will be hosting HackOut, the first-ever, LGBT-oriented hackathon, to be held at the Capital Factory on the 16th floor of the Austin Centre, adjacent to the Omni Hotel, in downtown Austin on Saturday, October 19, 2013 (9:00 am – 12:00 midnight), and Sunday, October 20, 2013 (7:00 am – 7:00 pm). StartOut is pleased and grateful to announce that Facebook, Google, Jones Spross PLLC, Rackspace, Launch Marketing, Curious Cat Company and Thinktiv have signed on as leading sponsors of HackOut, with Capital Factory acting as the venue sponsor.
Hackathons are an excellent way to merge entrepreneurial spirit with computer programming prowess and product design sensibilities. Students, hackers, programmers, product marketers, and other web enthusiasts can form small teams to create new ventures during the hackathon. Individuals with all levels of experience are welcome to participate, and any viable business idea can form the basis for participants’ hacks. Google Cloud Platform is offering developers $2,000 of credit to start building applications on Google App Engine and Google Compute Engine during the hackathon weekend. Rackspace is donating more than $24,000 in cloud computing services to the winning teams. Facebook, Jones Spross PLLC, and Thinktiv have kindly agreed to be cash sponsors to help underwrite this event. StartOut would welcome the contributions of additional sponsors for this year’s HackOut or the one planned for next year.
Food and drinks will be provided throughout the course of the weekend, and mentors from leading technology companies will be available to give feedback. Team submissions will be due at 1:00 pm on Sunday with team demonstrations commencing at 2:00 pm. Prizes will be announced at 5:00 pm, and everyone is invited to celebrate afterwards during a social hour.
